Yes, you're right. I shouldn't have jumped straight to aggressive. I think I did so bc from this president's pov, telling him to stop or face consequences would be considered aggressive, due to him being a sociopath with no one checking his power, but you're quite right.

If acting docile is a bad thing then presumably its opposite -- calling him out, ie acting aggressive -- is a good thing.

I know precisely how appeasement fared in the 1930s. I also know that 'standing up to Hitler' wouldn't have changed a damn thing for Czechoslovakia, Poland, Holland, etc etc. So apart from moral high ground, what's the logic?

I don't 'need an explanation' on the theoretical level of principle. I want to hear your logic in relation to how 'not cowering' diminishes the actual threat on the ground. Maybe read less political science and more history.

There's a fair bit of classism in this take that I think needs some consideration. Seriously. We might not like a system that exploits people who want to pull up their bootstraps but have no boots, but that's why many enlist. Education, training, career, a way out of their home town.

It was the Poppy Fund that anted up hard core for both my husband's grandfather (WWII) and his brother (Croatia, Afghanistan).

We have the rest of the year to litigate why they were asked to go make sacrifices, to our continuing shame as a human family. We have one day when literally all that's asked of us is to honour the fact that they did so AND to support the Poppy Fund that picks up the pieces afterward.

If the NDP can get a new leader who doesn't just do Poilievre's job for him, that'll be a good start. Refusing to take neo-liberalism as a given would be a nice follow-up.

Does he mention the entire categories of people whose "representation" would have to get thrown overboard by Dems in order to win these places he wants them to win? Bc that's the issue. Whole sections of your country don't want entire categories of people to be represented. Acknowledged. To exist.
