Yes, you're right. I shouldn't have jumped straight to aggressive. I think I did so bc from this president's pov, telling him to stop or face consequences would be considered aggressive, due to him being a sociopath with no one checking his power, but you're quite right.

If acting docile is a bad thing then presumably its opposite -- calling him out, ie acting aggressive -- is a good thing.
January 6, 2026 at 5:31 PM
Explain how acting aggressive instead is positive.

Precisely.

I want to know how your specific suggestion of standing up to the bully is logically more 'right' than NOT doing so, if the goal is to avoid the threat of reprisal.
January 6, 2026 at 4:09 PM
I know precisely how appeasement fared in the 1930s. I also know that 'standing up to Hitler' wouldn't have changed a damn thing for Czechoslovakia, Poland, Holland, etc etc. So apart from moral high ground, what's the logic?
January 6, 2026 at 4:04 PM
I don't 'need an explanation' on the theoretical level of principle. I want to hear your logic in relation to how 'not cowering' diminishes the actual threat on the ground. Maybe read less political science and more history.
January 6, 2026 at 4:02 PM
Explain that logic. Not as a theoretical expression of your favourite playground principle, but in relation to an actual existential threat.
January 6, 2026 at 3:54 PM
Threats. Your president has issued threats.

KIDNAPPED.

Here's what to know: the point isn't whether or not it's easy. The point is that it's Putin- and Netanyahu-level illegal. Do better, NPR.

Would you react this way if she posted a photo of herself smoking a cigarette? All "it's HER body" and "spare me your so-called concern" and "she's not responsible for the girls she influences"? I doubt it. My concern for her is real. She's deep in an addiction-adjacent illness that can kill her.

About a pound and a half per person annually. Look in your sofa cushions and you'll cover it.

Wow. It's rare to see propaganda getting made in real time and so obviously, particularly attached to the actual clip it's made from. Congratulations.

Grammar's pretty bad, though it'd arguably affect fewer people than either Sacred Heart or Armbrae.
November 17, 2025 at 9:35 PM
Um, that's exactly what it is?
November 9, 2025 at 1:33 PM
Yes.
and... Classism? In sneering "thank you for your service" at those statistically likely to have enlisted in that system because they've had no other way out of poverty and personal instability?
Also yes.
November 9, 2025 at 1:18 PM
There's a fair bit of classism in this take that I think needs some consideration. Seriously. We might not like a system that exploits people who want to pull up their bootstraps but have no boots, but that's why many enlist. Education, training, career, a way out of their home town.

It was the Poppy Fund that anted up hard core for both my husband's grandfather (WWII) and his brother (Croatia, Afghanistan).
November 8, 2025 at 4:21 PM
We have the rest of the year to litigate why they were asked to go make sacrifices, to our continuing shame as a human family. We have one day when literally all that's asked of us is to honour the fact that they did so AND to support the Poppy Fund that picks up the pieces afterward.

If the NDP can get a new leader who doesn't just do Poilievre's job for him, that'll be a good start. Refusing to take neo-liberalism as a given would be a nice follow-up.
November 5, 2025 at 10:15 PM
Does he mention the entire categories of people whose "representation" would have to get thrown overboard by Dems in order to win these places he wants them to win? Bc that's the issue. Whole sections of your country don't want entire categories of people to be represented. Acknowledged. To exist.

This decision was made for me by my genes, which failed to provide me with a waist.

Okay, I'm not crazy, it's weird, right?
