Arne Naess is a Norwegian philosopher + environmental activist who climbed mountains and took isolated time to think + write. He and other great thinkers I mentioned this week leave us with a question: What kind of legacy do we want to leave behind—and what are we willing to do to make it livable?

Change is like building a puzzle. First, you dump the pieces out and notice what has been “stuck-in-the-box.” Next, you put all of the pieces together. Lastly, the finished picture is beautiful; much better and bigger than the one displayed on the box—what we imagined was possible!

Every change to society comes with a backlash. An eternal push and pull. We only make progress by never stopping or giving up. Imprisoned for 27 years, Nelson Mandela immediately started the fight all over again upon release. No setback is permanent.
