People often talk about the unique qualities that video games have as a storytelling medium but they don't really talk about how the interactive nature of video games can also be restrictive to storytelling and I think there's an interesting discussion to be had there

There's so much more we could be doing with narrative in games. So many different ways we could use interactive storytelling to evoke empathy, pass on knowledge, teach things, understand ideas & experiences.
We ignore that storytelling has been part of our culture for millennia

Ppl who like narrative games likely enjoy other storytelling media, so why should they play a game with weaker storytelling than a book. These games need to have a high level of storytelling craft, but also do what games do well & other media can't
