In 1776 Benjamin Franklin proposed the motto

“Rebellion to tyrants is obedience to God”

For the seal of the new United States.

Just saying.

Everyone's keeping an eye on the forecast for Jan 20. 40 years ago, temps dipped so low outdoor activities were cancelled for Reagan's 2nd inauguration.

Not to worry, the Inaugural Bands got to shine. The parade was restaged in America's other capital city, Lake Buena Vista (at #Epcot).

Ah yes, Thomas Jefferson, famously religious.

Often references to the first officially remembered Everest climbers list Hillary before Norgay, if they list him at all.

Spotted this label at Animal Kingdom today. Museums can use moments like this as moments of micro-inclusion. Small change that subverts the unconscious norm + makes you think.

Reread this today as Tiana opens at DL + realized the controversy of the ride’s change, caused in my view partly by forcing people who didn’t consider themselves racist to see their complicity in racist culture was perhaps prescient. #publichistory #dissky

If you’re gonna follow here you should know that I have been branded a “woke historian” and I’m ok with it.

"Is it any surprise that your tired, your poor, your huddled masses yearning to breathe free are gasping? Is no one minding the morality store? The answer is yes. His name is Walt Disney, and he has been dead for seven years." - The Evening Herald (PA), 1973 #disneyhistory #publichistory

After outgrowing the carrier, my daughter wasn’t so sure about hiking on her own two feet. Yesterday she told someone she “felt bad for them that they didn’t have their very own hiking boots.”

Look, Bing, if I want to search "Cafe Mikimaus Lesbian Bar" for research, I don't need your "safe" filters getting in the way. Not to worry, Google came through for me. #disneyhistory #publichistory

The Lim Family at Disneyland, 1957

"It was against the law for our parents to be married in Tucson in the 40's, so they went to Mexico to be married. [This] was the only family vacation we ever took."

#DisneyParks have always functioned as somewhat of a safe space for the marginalized who could afford them. See the inclusion of Disneyland in the 1963 Green Book + Jane Keunz' 1990 study that suggested anywhere from 25-75% of staff at WDW identified as "gay." #publichistory #disneyhistory

Amazing low-budget interactive I saw recently at the National Archives utilizing holographics. I’m a sucker for anything that forces the brain to think differently about our images of the past.
