Morris Riskind's memoir, which I edited, is an amazing document of a little-known borderland business and Jewish community in Eagle Pass, Texas.

Morris had an incredible life that ranged much wider than his small border town. He was a scholar, teacher, rancher, retailer, and lay religious leader.

Sorry, but "agree to disagree" is not in Trump's vocabulary. Only eight things are, and that isn't one of them.

Twice today I saw Texas flags flying upside-down in front of people's homes, and because it's Texas I honestly don't know if it was some kind of political commentary or just a couple of idiots who don't know any better.

Really enjoyed "Death by Lightning" on Netflix. Terrific, believable performances (Offerman as Chester Arthur!), even if it's a bit melodramatic and some dialogue anachronistic.

I wasn't expecting how much this story revolved around the inadequacy of 19th century medical and mental health care. 🗃️

Thanks! Here are two from Kempis (randomly from the middle of the book where it opens easily) and the page from Weems telling of the cherry tree.

Also this gorgeous little thing. This is "Dell'Imitazione di Christo," a Catholic devotional text by Tomaso da Kempis, published at the Vatican in 1722.

I was just gifted several antique books from the collection of a departed friend and mentor. Some amazing things, but this is the treasure.

This is Weems's Life of Washington, published in Philadelphia in 1823.
