the way America has intertwined employment with general health insurance that’s then separate from dental insurance makes it an extreme luxury to be able to have access to dentistry. and that access is still separate from being able to afford cleanings, check-ups, work, and the like.

you know what’s incredibly hot and in vogue rn?? not making fun of another person’s teeth, lack of dental upkeep, etc!

i’m trying to work through this theory i have that it is, in fact, an incredible act of cowardice to love people “no matter what” — to not have any convictions, boundaries, or foundation of morals on which you’ll stand to draw a line of non-acceptance for certain matters.

And we all know that’s true, because that’s all he did. Ultimately, that’s all he was, because he never bothered to be anything else.

And now he’s gone, so let’s do him the honor of remembering him with accuracy.

Charlie Kirk woke up every day and made a conscious decision to be the Charlie Kirk we all saw. That’s the meanest thing I can think of to say about pretty much anyone, and it also happens to be completely true.

We can remember what he did, and we can remember who he did it to.

It’s fine to say that violence is never the answer, but I can’t help but observe that for Charlie Kirk violence was always the answer, and it was the only answer he offered, and, because of the privilege that he refused to admit he had, he could enact it from a comfortable and respectable place.

The truth of the matter is that if anyone but Charlie Kirk had been killed at today’s shooting, then Charlie Kirk would be out there right now using the shooting as pretext to deliver arguments designed to make sure that the next shooting would happen, and the next one, and the next, and the next.

When Jefferey Lamar Williams II says that Mariah the Lab Technician is an “innocent girl” and to “leave her out of this,” he’s asking us to ignore the ways women assist men in the same male-specific fuckery that 1) harms women 2) makes a mockery of abuse 3) never believes women as victims

imagine being hated so much that elderly white people in palm beach county took time away from their golfing schedules to demonstrate on PGA Boulevard with anti-fascist signs saying how much they fucking despise you and what you’re doing to this country 💀

1. Nothing to contribute to the Texas loss other than the fact that 6 years after Emmett Till was murdered, Arch Manning’s daddy grew up 3.1 miles away from the barn he was murdered in. Not Arch’s granddaddy, his daddy. And America keeps running from the same “history” it never wants to learn from.

70 years ago, on this date, Emmett Till was kidnapped and brutally murdered by white men.

His family, including his cousin who was with him at the time, is repeating the train ride he took from Chicago to Mississippi in 1955 to mark the anniversary

If you haven't read Evenings And Weekends by Oisin McKenna yet, it is stunning. I haven't felt so evangelical about recommending a book to EVERYONE since Song Of Achilles. It's a brilliant slice-of-life snapshot with fantastic characters that are just fun to hang out with as you're reading

I read Song Of Achilles years ago and it hit me so hard, like nothing else I'd ever read. The only other book that ever gave me that feeling since was Evenings And Weekends by Oisin McKenna

I’d like to add that that…was kind of the point. I don’t think Kendrick had a goal to shut out a whole group of people but his whole message was “I didn’t HAVE to assimilate or sell out to be on the same stage as people who did ‘play the game’ and went mainstream.” That confusion holds power
Thank you for sharing t/gift link &writing this piece. It’s been eye opening to hear so many White people not get Kendrick’s performance. It’s like they saw a different show.
