Saddened to hear of the death of Vincent Scotti Eirene, one of Pittsburgh’s greatest activists over the past forty years. A man of spirit, humor, and fierce devotion to peace and social justice, he was truly one of a kind. Had a good bit of the Yippie in him. Here is one of his favorite photos. RIP.

Hungarian born designer Mme Eta Hentz named this 1944 evening gown ‘Athena’ an appropriately goddess like description for her neo-classical creation. Otherwise it is all modernity, made from fashionably forties rayon @metmuseum.org #FashionHistory 🗃️🪡

"My sledge & hammer lies reclined, My bellows too have lost his wind.

My fire’s extinct, my forge decayed, And in the dust my vice is laid.

My coal is spent, my iron gone, My nails are drove, my work is done."

This is a banknote issued by the short-lived Aberystwyth and Tregaron Bank.

It was occasionally known as Banc y Ddafad Ddu, due to the black sheep on the notes, with the number of sheep featured on the bank note corresponding to its value in pounds.

Time for a bit of reality - a thread.

Sales in the shop are doing well, but we're reliant on sales on the website to help pay the bills.

The website is reliant on social media, particularly twitter.

Since September, we've seen a big decline in people seeing our tweets.

Dark days coming for #genealogy in the U.S.
It is clear that data critical to genealogy (and other disciplines) is being systematically stripped from federal websites. Census Bureau data IS being removed, and census data geeks at IPUMS verify and are taking whatever steps they can to preserve the data for the future. Scary times we live in.

Woo! This record really helped me find part of her story. Esther became a midwife, dedicating her life to birthing other women's children while she, herself, was an unmarried mother, meaning the birthing of her own children were, for her community members, a source of stigma. Amazing. #Genealogy

#Genealogy If you have midwife ancestors in the UK, a great way to flesh out your story-telling is by reading works by Dr. Angela Joy Muir who writes a lot on illegitimacy & midwifery, like in this article: academic.oup.com/shm/article/...

Speed limits for several classes of vehicles will be raised from next Saturday. Goods vehicles will be able to go up to 40mph instead of 30mph, but they will still have to keep to 30 mph in built-up areas.
