Great piece by @blakeshaffer.bsky.social on electricity grids and the case for transmission across Canada 🇨🇦
It's always been part of the national vision.
The barriers are still there, waiting to be overcome.
But the benefits---and urgency---have grown.

Forget America; it's time to build the east-west power grid.

By me, in Macleans today:

Forget America. Build an East-West Power Grid. - Macleans.ca
For decades, we've prioritized electrical trade with the United States. It's time to reduce our dependence on them.

If Canada is looking for nation-building projects that improve affordability, enhance reliability, reduce our reliance on the US, and set us up for the future, don’t have to look much further than interprovincial transmission.

By me and Philippe Dunsky:

Canada needs a nation-building project. It should start with interprovincial power transmission
The future is electric – and Canada should leverage its provinces’ complementary strengths and needs to build an east-to-west network and reach our full energy potential

Eby: “I wanted to hit on a sovereign Canada”

But then he saw the wounded US veterans enter the stadium.

“I was like, man, they must be feeling so anxious about what kind of reaction they are going to get here. And I thought that was so awful they’d feel that way.”

Empathy. Leadership. 👏🏼

Patrick O'Brian is a great conservative writer. Taking advantage of the Ganesh brouhaha to write a post that I have been wanting to write for at least a decade, if Sam Goldman didn't get there first and do it better www.programmablemutter.com/p/patrick-ob...

Drawing attention to the gender dynamics that Taylor Swift faces was definitely not on the list of things I thought I'd be doing as director of the Climate Solutions Lab @climatesollab.bsky.social @watsoninstitute.bsky.social but here we are ...

Scrutiny over Taylor Swift’s travel in private jets has been bubbling up online, with people pointing out the planet-warming emissions that are let off with each flight.

Very pleased to have led the writing for this white paper on Canada's climate regs for its oil and gas sector, one of the largest in the world. Our message: close the loopholes!

Disappointing to see the Govt. of Canada backtracking on its own climate goals with its proposed regulatory framework for GHG emissions from oil and gas. CSL's white paper released today makes 4 recommendations to improve it watson.brown.edu/climatesolut... www.canada.ca/en/services/...

FTC announces investigation of Exxon's proposed $60billion deal for Pioneer. Also this week, Exxon suddenly, for the first time, signed up to a methane pledge at COP28 and an (eventual) net zero commitment for its operations. Puuuuure coincidence, I'm sure. 🙄
