Patients and staff deserve SAFE PATIENT RATIOS! When I work nights (in a hospital unit) I have 13 or 14 patients. Days is 9 patients. I can’t given safe and competent care for that many people. My shifts are filled with constant decisions of who is the highest priority in the moment.

Nurse here and if separated I could sleep a normal amount of time after working a shift and have the physical and emotional capacity to be present with my family when at home.
At work, my innie and outie selves need to both be present in order to provide compassionate and competent care.

Or better yet…pay into a federal or state/provincial fund to leverage associated costs per person

I work in post acute with 10 patients on days and 12 on nights. It’s not safe for patients and no one in management seems to see it that way
