Make plans to use alternate routes during the Berkeley Half Marathon.

A few intersections will allow intermittent access at various times throughout the morning.

The Berkeley Police Department and event personnel will monitor the course during these times.

Most affected streets will be closed as runners move through and re-opened on race day when the event is over, including:
- freeway offramps
- sections of MLK Jr. Way, Telegraph, Shattuck

If you’ve parked your car on an affected street, move it well before that road’s particular closure time and take note of parking restrictions.

Join the virtual workshop and share thoughts on proposals to reduce collisions at the intersection of Derby & Warring streets. Join a virtual community meeting to improve safety for pedestrians and bicyclists at a busy Elmwood neighborhood intersection. At the November 12 event, City staff will present two proposals to improve the intersection of Derby and Warring Streets. Participants will have time to ask questions and submit feedback after the presentation.

According to Berkeley police data, the most common factors for collisions were: inattentive turning & signaling; not obeying speed laws; & driving under the influence

Proposed changes focus on:
-Slowing vehicle turn movements
-Reduce pedestrian exposure to cars
-Increase pedestrian visibility

These changes create more certain paths to approval for applicants without lengthy waits for a public review & possible appeals. In doing so, they address central issues in the ongoing housing crisis – not just more homes, but also more types of homes for all people.

These new, City Council-approved changes encourage construction of new units in these neighborhoods, where all height limits would be 35 feet – the height of many existing single-family homes.

These new types of units can range from duplexes to small-scale, multi-family apartments.
