Worried about the country and world
At the same time the Department of Agriculture says it cannot spend its $6 billion in reserves to address the $8 billion needed for SNAP in November, the administration easily found $20 billion to prop up right-wing Trump ally Javier Milei in Argentina.

What are we doing here?

if the Court strikes down Section 2 of the Voting Rights Act, it will be bad for democracy, voting rights, civil rights, minority representation, and the Democratic Party. The ruling would allow Republicans to eliminate almost every Democratic district in the Deep South.

Per the Commonwealth Fund, the loss of the premium tax credits will cause nearly 5 million people to lose their health insurance in 2026; the loss of tax credits will cost 340,000 jobs: 154,000 in healthcare industries & 185,000 in other sectors> $2.5 billion decline in local & state tax revenues.

Republicans are trying to convince Americans that Democrats are responsible for the shutdown. Trump claims he wants to keep the government open & support the American people.
This statement badly misrepresents what’s going on in D.C. Trump is refusing to talk with Democrats, let alone negotiate.

Spr Johnson canceled House business again next week, so over the last 17 weeks, the House of Representatives will have worked on Capitol Hill for 20 days.
25 states will run out of SNAP benefits on 11/1.
We will have the most mass hunger suffering we’ve had in America since the Great Depression.”

This past weekend marked a historic national day of action. Some 7000000+ people gathered in red states & blue, from cities to small towns, to declare to the wannabe dictator in the White House, "No Kings in America!”
Peaceful expression met with utter gibberish & lies (as usual) from Tramp &MAGA

Since 7/4/25, the House has met for 20 business days over 16 weeks, (Oct. 27–30 listed as TBD). That means the House of Representatives, which are paid more than $170,000 per year, only worked 20 days out of 112! See updated calendar from Jamie Dupree-yellow=days House is working under Mike Johnson

I’m honestly impressed at how hard the lower courts are pushing back against an increasingly corrupt regime.
Sucks that it means little when scotus can just shadow docket & tell them to get rekt

The courts have been doing a valiant job on these rulings. SCOTUS could learn a lot from the lower courts.

Overturning the decision of the lower court would finish the gutting of the Voting Rights Act the Roberts Court began with the 2013 Shelby County v. Holder decision.
This shift shows the willingness of the right-wing majority on the court to gather the power of the U.S. government into its own hands

Gerrymandering depresses turnout of the losing party’s voters so Republicans would appear to hold the country more firmly, making the U.S as a whole reflect the American South from about 1874 to 1965.
Such a one-party state would give the leader of that party any power he wants, the current state.

Nate Cohn of the Times: striking down Section 2 of the Voting Rights Act could eliminate more than a dozen districts in the South currently held by Democrats. Republicans could win uncontested control of the South & could control the House even if they lost the popular vote by a significant margin.

When it passed the Voting Rights Act, Congress did what the 15th Amendment required to protect the right of racial
minorities to vote. As Jonathan Ladd notes, now the Supreme Court is on the cusp of saying that IT, rather than Congress, can determine how to enforce the right of citizens to vote.

Congress would pass a measure to pay the troops easily if only House speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) would call the House into session. Democrats have been begging Johnson to bring such a measure to the floor.

Stephen Miller said the quiet part out loud. Trump has “plenary authority,” then suddenly went silent. Their plan wasn’t to be public yet. Clearly, someone hit the panic button in his earpiece.

It gets weirder: CNN uploaded the interview with the “plenary authority” comment edited out.

Miller oopsie doodled and said the quiet part out loud, talking about DT aka himself having “plenary authority”:

A plenary power or plenary authority is a complete and absolute power to take action on a particular issue, with no limitations

Miller’s use of the word PLENARY should set off alarm bells. It’s a legal term of art associated with near-dictatorial discretion. To hear it from a senior Trump advisor, in the middle of a constitutional standoff over domestic troop deployments, is jarring. Why is this not being reported???
