Finally, my top films of the year, and other A-tier films I really enjoyed!

Here are my bottom movies of 2024. Some of these I went in to hate-watch, and couldn't even do that (looking at you Joker, who had all the right ingredients and wasted Lady Gaga).

Since Letterboxd was the closest, I looked at which films we most disagreed on. In the top are films I tended to like MORE than LB users, and the ones I tended to dislike more are...below them.

I compared my ratings to other popular sites.

@letterboxd.social
Rotten Tomatos
IMDb
Metacritic

Letterboxd users and I had the highest correlation. but could be I used that ranking system and converted my scores to the other metrics. I was not about to rate each film 4 times on 4 scales.

A break down of genre %, and how I tended to score each genre (0-5).

Movies often had more than one genre, so I counted each instance.

Sci-fi had Dune: Part 2 and The Substance.. I mean, c'mon no wonder its at the top.

Surprisingly, most of the films were original stories. Probably because I prefer to watch original ideas and not a fan of the constant IP.

Despite the male bias, the leading casts were pretty evenly spread.

The "none" is the movie Flow (2024) which is a beautiful animated movie that is only animals. And we are not assuming any gender there 👺

Most of the films were directed by men, so I am making a goal to increase the amount of women-directed films.

"I Saw the TV Glow" (2024) was directed by Jane Schoenbrun, a nonbinary director.

Despite the varying countries, not many were in other languages. I like foreign films a lot, but need to step my game up here!

A majority of the films were USA based, since I am here in the Western world. But a bunch of other countries were involved on at least 2 movies.

The average run time was 1 h 56 min, with the median run time not that much different at 1 h 53 min.

Heres the breakdown per month. I was a bit slow as I didnt hit movie 50 until late summer.

Movie 50: Alien (1979)
Movie 100: Nosferatu (2024)
