My takes are half the reason you used to log on to Twitter dot com. Professional Photographer based in Seattle. Cinephile. Shakespearean. Eclecticist.
Lately I got re-hooked, all these years after it launched on Gran Turismo 7.

Like contemplating buying a sim rig level of hooked.

This in today's @blankcheck.bsky.social newsletter backs up my grand unifying theory I've been working on as I rewatch every Spielberg in order. I think Steve's entire career is a psuh pull tension between on location and sound stage. This goes back to Jaws, obviously.

I’ve been working a lot on reclaiming my attention (part of which is coming on this app a lot less) and this quote from @craigmod.com struck me today.

I can’t stress how much better my days go when I don’t look at my phone first thing, and read books before bed instead of scrolling Reddit

1941 kinda blew my mind when we get the Nancy Allen character and ensuing sex comedy that is weirdly similar to the dynamics in the Fabelmans.

I've been told the Fabelmans girlfriend is a fabrication, but it's weird he did this dynamic twice (and that he clearly was like get me a Nancy Allen type)

In Duel, after his initial confrontation with the truck, Weaver stops to make a call home, where we learn his wife is mad at him for not standing up to his work friend who made a pass at her. I mean look at how she's styled...

Also, Spielberg added this for the international theatrical run #filmsky

I rewatched Close Encounters last night, and I was struck by how the police, military, and government power work in Spielberg’s early films. In Sugarland, Jaws, Close Encounters, ET, and Raiders, these power structures constantly battle our more underdog heroes.

I watched The Sugarland Express today for the first time. One of the only Spielbergs I’d not seen.

Pretty wild that movie is a little lost to time, it has no business being as good as it is. The direction is flat out stunning.
