Y’all, I’ve been converted. I rode through West Meade yesterday (to get to Costco, NOT to dox and harass) and saw this affordable (only $3.6m!) little historic gem that definitely doesn’t increase stormwater runoff. I understand why they don’t allow redevelopment now.

Probably suboptimal that a project on a public structure is using a bike lane as parking

Make Lafayette look like this but it’s Metro-owned TOD

You won’t believe this but I obtained a leaked copy of the complaints

so thankful that our zoning has preserved this historic and affordable $2mil cottage 😌

Part of the reason I bike so much is to make my car last as long as I can. With any luck I can avoid a car payment for 4 or 5 more years

“One of the biggest issues affecting so many people in our country is affordable housing. One of the issues there is supply… part of the issue is that it just takes too long to get permits!”

“Everyone not excluded by our exclusionary zoning wants to keep our exclusionary zoning” is not democratic

Oh I remember. Insane that we let half a dozen homeowners spend a year making this project significantly worse in a supermajority renter council district just for this to be the outcome
November 19, 2025 at 3:52 PM
I’m curious how many renters CM Vo has talked to about this project

What if, instead of micromanaging uses and minor details of each individual development (and delaying homes in the process), we regulated nuisances like noise and dust? Then this resident (homeowner?) might actually have some recourse other than blocking hundreds of homes
November 19, 2025 at 3:29 PM
This is a broken and undemocratic process, IMO

always fascinating to see what requires Community Engagement

Spending 6 figures on a PHB to save drivers a few seconds and arguably make pedestrians less safe? Go ahead!

Build a quadplex indistinguishable from the single family home next door? Woah, what if homeowners have to park 1/4 block away?

Great episode, with thoughtful questions and substantive answers. Love to hear public officials acknowledging policy tradeoffs

Sabrina Sussman seems like a huge get - I’m excited to see what she accomplishes, and I hope NDOT and council members will support her podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/c...

We don’t actually care about context, but it’s endlessly fascinating *where* we claim to care about it, and what we use it to prevent

Reality: I’m constantly hearing of professional athletes with some sort of injury
