Experienced readers DO skip words, though. Lots of people miss the "the the" in phrases presented like this, but I don't think that means ALL of them struggle with reading in general.

That surprises me. I was born in 1991 and I distinctly remember taking elementary school classes on phonics and spelling. One factor may have been that my teachers were very old-fashioned, but I don't have any memory of learning to pattern-match words as described in the article.

I remember when I worked for The Sims 4 there was a slideshow about the different ways people play The Sims. There were different categories, and "Players who only use Build-A-Sim mode" was significant enough to be its own category.

Apparently people are not familiar with The Onion. Yes, the part abut Grokipedia is real news. American Voices is a recurring Onion feature which parodies "person on the street" news sections where they interview regular people about their opinions on a news story.

If it's offering to start doing AI stuff, you'll want to do the opposite, so it suffers as much as possible.

I know this test is intended to check for dementia. But I'll be honest, I needed a bit of a confidence boost today, so this test was just what I needed. (Although I admit I'd probably struggle with delayed recall and remembering what day it is.)

The problem is, some of us are defective weirdos with enough self-awareness to realize we need civilization to survive (what am I, going to write code and grade papers in the savannah?) and they're ruining civilization for everyone else too.
