Yes, I think this is a great point. Some of it is just pure reaction and spite.

I do also think some of it is ignorance and indifference to what art is, as well. It’s just a lever that pours escapism into their mouths.

Perfect example of why artists of all stripes should have never conceded to referring to their work (writing, acting, making TikTok videos, whatever) as ‘content.’ It’s led us to an absurd place.

Someone literally said they thought in 5-10 years, ai will outperform actors to an ‘absurd degree’.
I feel so cut off from these people; I can’t even begin to imagine why they would think that.

This is what a full two decades of 24/7, all guns blazing media discourse on 'the problem of immigration' does, I guess. The needle has been pretty comprehensively moved to 'bloody immigrants' being a thing not just said by your weird neighbour, but a large chunk of society.

My counter to the argument that 'people should be allowed to express their views' is: well, if you're going to express that immigrants cause crime and are a problem, you need to qualify that beyond "it's obvious", which is what Garron said. Without more, it just sounds, well, bigoted.

I may be old and out of touch, but I remember when you could count on liberals - for all their faults! despite consistently siding with capital! - to at least hold liberal values. Gordon Brown called her a 'bigoted woman' after all.
Now, if that Gillian Duffy thing happened, they'd nod along.
