This is all to say, I’m in my 40s, my brother inlaw just gave me a Commodore64 and I’m going to write some damn BASIC like I’m a kid copying programs out of magazines that I couldn’t afford.

I can’t deny how quickly some of the models can do things that used to take days or weeks. But do I really want to become an agent sitter? And why would anyone pay me a “principal” wage to do that?

A small example from my career: when we experimented with an advisory board system on LiveJournal back in 2005, the frontrunner for the "user-elected representative" seat was the single most prominent and abusive griefer on the entire site of ~20 million people.
