There’s something pretty magical about seeing a robin out in the wild. That flash of orange-red in the branches, the way they hop around like they own the place—no wonder they’re one of Britain’s favourite birds.

A Perfect Day in Mevagissey

I took this photo in October 2021, not long after Ollie was born. Helen and I had escaped to Cornwall for a few days—a much-needed breather, introducing Ollie to family, and reminding ourselves that life still existed beyond nappies and sleepless nights.

I used to run wild near Symonds Yat at the Forest of Dean as a kid—camping at Biblins, crossing the wobbly bridge, and exploring until I dropped. Coming back with my wife and son was something special. Same view, same magic, just with a little more nostalgia.

I’ve put up a little bird feeder on my kitchen window. Not sure how long it’ll take to get some attention, but I’ve set up a camera next to it in the hopes of capturing some of our feathered friends!

My three year old son’s Roquito pepper plant is thriving this time of year. I'm crossing my fingers it stays warm enough inside to harvest some peppers soon. Who knew we’d be raising a future pepper mogul in our household? 😂🌱🌶️

A mere seven hundred light years from Earth toward the constellation Aquarius, a star is dying. The once sun-like star's last few thousand years have produced the Helix Nebula. Also known as NGC 7293, the cosmic Helix is a well studied and nearby example of a Planetary Nebula, typical of this final phase of stellar evolution. Combining narrow band data from emission lines of hydrogen atoms in red and oxygen atoms in blue-green hues, this deep image shows tantalizing details of the Helix, including its bright inner region about 3 light-years across. The white dot at the Helix's center is this Planetary Nebula's hot, dying central star. A simple looking nebula at first glance, the Helix is now understood to have a surprisingly complex geometry.
