however, psycholinguistic and corpus studies¹ (studying huge language datasets) show that up to 60% of human speech is made up of prefabricated 'chunks' (sequences of words that always appear together like "take a look", "end of the day" etc).

the problem with grammar study is that the brain does not construct sentences using textbook grammar rules—language exists in our heads as networks of associations between 'chunks', and the patterns documented in textbooks emerge from those associations
