I admit that Twitter is in certain ways worse since Musk bought it but it has improved in two ways: 1) a lot of the most annoying people left and moved here, and 2) I now randomly get paid money once in a while for tweets I was already sending

Indeed, even in December 1963 (after Kennedy was killed, after LBJ called for the passage of the civil rights act) among white people only, majorities nationally did not support support a law banning the practice.

But more interesting than the top line number is the demographic breakout. Though the top line majority was pretty similar between 1958-1963, support in the north declined bc of uneducated white northers, compensated by an increase in south college graduate whites

It’s more complex than you’re making it out to be. The top line number of whites saying they wouldn’t move was roughly flat between 1958-193, but it was already a majority. It increased dramatically after the Civil Rights Act passed…

I’m reading this research paper from 1967 about public opinion changes on civil rights and they do this statistically suspect thing where they extend the trends to estimate what year demographics will get woke.

That’s a totally misleading stat of just white people. The civil rights act and the voting rights act were broadly popular nationally by the time they actually were passed
