Politically and materially this was a spectacular failure by Democrats. If you need to trick yourself into thinking this was some moral victory feel free.

FWIW there's no such thing as a "moral good by itself" because all factors have to be weighed.
Also, the argument you made was that Dems have a lot of angry people calling them telling them to end the shutdown.
None of those people are now happy with Democrats and more willing to vote for them.

FWIW there's no such thing as a "moral good by itself" because all factors have to be weighed.

Yes, I read and understood your argument. But again, that was a constant.
There's simply no way to frame this as the Dems doing anything other than caving for nothing.
That doesn't win them points with anyone who was unhappy with the shutdown & costs them points with anyone who wanted the fight.
