You’re actually just incredibly immersed in the world of JRR Tolkien, trying to read LOTR in the same amount of time it took Frodo to get to Mordor and back.

I got Babel by R.F Kuang for my birthday a few weeks back and read all 550 odd pages in about a week. I couldn’t put it down!

Let us remind ourselves that The Robot Revolution opens with a cat being disintegrated

You’ll be saying something silly like ‘The Invasion of Time is a better story’ next. I can see it coming Dan.

I look forward to watching it soon. Some adaptations absolutely make changes for the better, but I also sometimes can’t help loving being the smug git who has read the book. I’m going to be insufferable when Dune Messiah comes out next year, even though I know I’ll love it.

That’s a very bold take. It was watching Pet Sematary (1989, I’m not touching the 2019 one) after reading the book which prompted me to always try and do King’s books first. I can’t imagine trying to take the book seriously after watching an adaptation that whacky and unserious.

Maybe the intent was there in Arc of Infinity, he just didn’t have the knees or hips for it yet.

Doctor Who and the rural British villages, my favourite story setting. We even got a bonkers local old lady. They make the best side characters, Professor Rumford being the best of course.

I hate to remind you, but D84’s fate would make it quite miraculous if he appeared in the sequel. Anyhow, loved this story.

What scares me most is how fast it’s developed. When I started university in 2023 I was in the first academic year group (as far as I know) given official AI warnings for work, but even then anyone using it daily was still an alien concept. In under two years it’s become so normalised. Terrifying.

Nothing grows bigger than the pit in my stomach when I’m speaking to someone and they mention “asking ChatGPT” or “I’ll just have to rely on ChatGPT”. A horribly common phrase to hear these days, especially at university.
