It is not.

Homelessness is a choice. It is a choice made every day by those with the power to make sure we have good-paying jobs, sufficient affordable housing, and a safety net to catch those who need help because we don't do enough of the first two things I mentioned.

We could choose to end it

We spend over $800 billion a year on the Department of Defense.

The tax cuts proposed recently by Republicans would decrease revenue by $4.5 TRILLION!

Is it really so absurd to think that $15 or $20 or even $30 billion to END HOMELESSNESS is a stretch to ask for?
House Republican Budget’s $4.5 Trillion Tax Cut Doubles Down on Costly Failures of 2017 Tax Law | Center on Budget and Policy Priorities
Extending the expiring tax cuts for individuals and large estates would double down on the flaws in the 2017 law by giving the biggest benefits to the wealthy.

Of course, all of this is complicated.

While the funds are absolutely within our means, it is a SIGNIFICANT amount.

It is not clear that there would be staff to meet the scale of such an expansion or housing stock to accommodate the prospective tenants.

And yet, it is simple...

The heart of the article is; so, what would this cost?

The answer is just shy of $10 billion.

That's a lot of money. And, it's a conservative estimate.

But, we also just increased defense spending by $6 billion in the latest CR. That includes $1.5 billion for just 1 single ship.
CR would provide $1.5 billion for extra, unrequested warship - Roll Call
The spending bill the House passed on Tuesday would add more than $1.5 billion to start building a warship that the Navy did not request.

It is well worth noting that- as I've said on here many times before- the homeless response system for Veterans is significantly better resourced and comes the closest to matching the need. It still doesn't quite meet it, but it's much closer- and the declines in Veterans homelessness prove it works

What does that mean? Well...only 16% of people experiencing sheltered homelessness over the course of a year get a Housing First intervention to match their needs.

This is the slightly more correct take. Nothing will top the original for me just for sheer force of how original and different it was when it dropped, but 1) the hate for it is completely unjustifiable and 2) the chase scene is the best thing in any of the trilogy and honestly top 20 film moment

In my Christian high school someone came into school after a midnight opening and reported back that the movie was very good except for the orgy. I knew then that it would be a 10/10 for me.

If you can eliminate all your DEI language, staff positions and public commitments and it "won’t change our commitment to fostering a company culture where everyone belongs and everyone can excel" then that commitment was always bullshit window dressing and your company culture toxic white supremacy

I’ve never spoken to a human at either office- including DC and local offices. Both have zero constituent services. They’re a disgrace.

Tried to do this yesterday at my Congressman's office when asking him to tell me exactly what was banned by the OMB memo and what "woke gender ideology" was and he deferred me back to OMB because he's a coward.

I bet if your phone didn't go straight to a full voicemail inbox you would've received even more! Your constituent response sucks. I've never been more disappointed in a politician I actively supported than I am in you in this moment. You're not up to the task.
