My judgement is this: You can’t automate your way out of the responsibility for knowing and understanding how the world works

there's a hidden Madisonian lemma that if you design institutions, and funnel prestige and power through them, you can shape the holders of offices toward the end of sustaining the institutions they serve. and like, whoops, fuck.

there’s an implicit agreement across the political spectrum that violence is more effective at achieving political aims than nonviolence and so the only debate is when it’s morally acceptable to do. this does not seem obviously correct to me.

Me, that's why I never wrote one.

Don't just hog many people's calendar with something that is essentially self preservation of coaches and managers that can't do any of the above well enough.

But the universality also means there's close analogues elsewhere, especially in cultures that are more publicly celebratory, like Southern America or the the US South.

Meute is probably just a cold, exacting version of New Orleans Marching bands. It works there, it works here, it works everywhere.

All these things work universally, and in some ways globally, where there's an added element of exoticism of German culture.

And the reasons why it works are obvious. They manage to make it sound and look great both on YouTube, where the audience is clearly international, allowing them to tour globally.

Yet it also works immediately in the streets, capturing bystanders immediately.

It's no wonder it works, it combines three very strong German music traditions - military marching bands, brass ensembles that play at e.g. beer fests, and techno.

They took that idea, and kept improving it over time. Now their audiovisual oeuvre is a great rabbit hole.
