Sadly they can ask for GRC (it's not illegal just to ask), but you not under any obligation to provide it unless it's in public interest (e.g. courts and police)

They wouldn't ask for judicial and medical 'proof' of self-identification for sexual identity, football team supporters or other things.
Why do they feel entitled to demand proof from trans people?
