Employers and organizations need to be committed not just to mitigating a pandemic, but to disability justice, collective access and a shared understanding that different ways of being in the world should be more than simply tolerated. We must recognize the unique value that disabled people bring to our lives and collective work. Of course, we as disabled people would still have a right to access if we did not contribute specifically to work-oriented projects and organizations, but that doesn't change the fact that we are already making those kinds of contributions, and we are needed now more than ever. "No states are allowed to make laws that take our freedoms and liberties away," she said. But then she mentioned a mask exemption card she got - not from a doctor, but from a friend. It appears she has one of the fake cards some people are using to try to get out of wearing a mask by claiming they have a disability. "I get overheated really easy," she explains. The issue with the freedom argument is that wearing a mask is about more than protecting yourself - there's growing evidence masks are useful for protecting others from those who may have Covid-19 and not know it. Not wearing a mask may encroach on another person's freedom to go out in relative safety.

@broadwaybabyto If you think wearing a mask is "too uncomfortable" you're really not going to like chronic illness. Not only will you be forced to mask constantly because no one else will protect you, but you will deal with all kinds of symptoms that can devastate quality of life. Mask up.
