👋 Falconer: 27 / female / GER & ENG

🦅 Bird: 0,75 / male / Goshawkish
[2/2]My friend Rieke agreed with me to raise the two siblings together - the closest I could ever come to what I'd call my ideal way of raising birds of prey till now. Having a aecond goshawk next to them they do not imprint on a human but have a chance to develop a bond with their conspecifics.

Hi!

I also do not believe it is wise to postpone one's actual passion to get a "beginner's bird" (whatever that should be). It would be to the detrement of the bird and oneself. Those birds often get set aside once the person has trained enough and switches over to their "real" bird.

This is where Illidae comes from.
He was raised with his real mom and with Herbert entering the aviary every day. He got to know humans as friendly but was still surrounded by his conspecifics.

She is an incredible bird. Calm. Friendly. Keen on hunting.
So I almost immediately asked Herbert if he would breed this year again as he had mentioned in the past that he would probably stop to do so.
And I was lucky! He did decide to do it once more!

For me that decision was a rather easy one. I got to know Lady and her falconer Herbert. I saw them hunting and interacting, had the opportunity to fly and train one of her offsprings and was allowed to take care of her and her chicks in the summer for a while.

Afterwards I got the chance to help out at a falcrony about an hour and 15 minutes from my home. There I got to know many, many other species (falcons, eagles, owls, hawks).
And yet I gravitated back to Goshawks all over again. They are different, full of energy and focus.

During that time I met other falconers, did animal-training courses and read many books on falconry but also training and learning theory in general. I helped whoever let me, trained where possible and tried to gather as much information as I possibly could.
