The A-League Women minimum wage has fallen behind all the other Australian sports, even though football is the only one with all these special revenue opportunities! There's ROI to be had!

Our conclusion - as Beau says on the pod - is that there's just not enough focus on it by the powers that be.

Last but not least, our market research has found that fans follow progress. People want to watch women's sport when it values women. Fully pro ALW players can invest time engaging with fans rather than running to a second job.

A relatively small investment would have a big bums on seats effect.

FIFA World Cup Club Benefits. If FIFA closes the gender gap even slightly, the women's pot could be $100m+.

Full-time pro ALW would develop, attract, and retain many more international level players (Matildas and otherwise) than a semi-pro ALW, so there's a significant financial return here too.

Next is prize money. The new women's ACL is already fairly lucrative. From 2028, AFC will allow more than one club per nation. And FIFA is launching new annual and quadrennial women's club tournaments.

Full-time pro ALW would dominate Asia, grabbing the lioness's share of this growing opportunity.

The growth of women's football overseas is making it hard to keep our talent here. The flip side is that there are ways for us to plug into that growth economically.

One is transfer fees. A fully pro ALW would grab a bigger share of a pie growing exponentially, so it could quickly be worth a lot.

Melbourne City’s late winner in the ACLE was quite a valuable goal!

A win in the ACLE group stage is worth US$100k. No prize money for a draw.

It also boosts Australia’s AFC club rank. We need to stay in the top 6 in East Asia to maintain our ACLE berth down the track. We’re on the cusp.

I wonder when was the last time, if ever, people from our clubs or league have spoken to Arsenal Women about how they do what they do.

On the plus side, there is a reported transfer fee involved. We identified that the women’s transfer market is growing exponentially, a trend which has continued in FIFA’s latest transfer data. ALW is perfectly placed to benefit from this and other revenue streams if we’re smart about it.

The report identified the massive growth in playing opportunities in North America including the new Canadian league and the USLS (a pro league to rival NWSL).

Our conditions are not keeping pace, so we’re at risk of seeing an acceleration to the talent drain which started when WSL went full pro.

Just skimming my old tweets one last time before finally deactivating. It was all foreseen.

Like Brisbane v @ccmarinersofficial.bsky.social ALW, more matches will be under threat as climate change worsens.

The PFA’s climate report last summer highlighted the risk and cost of more frequent extreme rainfall events.

The PFA’s A-League Men report (which I worked on) launched today. Obviously the headlines have focused on some critical elements.

There’s also some cool stuff in there like this generous contribution from Mark Jackson. I’m not sure if he’s told this story about Balard in the Grand Final elsewhere.
