Monopol has covered the drastic culture cuts planned for the new year. Cutting culture is a sure way of cutting dissenting views-- it's very political. Please sign the petition. The link is in my timeline and also in the Monopol article.

Here's two pictures of one of my works at the Museum Kesselhaus Herzberge in Lichtenberg. These iron stairs, now a sculptural remnant, were the perfect stage for my steel sculptures, combined in this case with cut fibre-reinforced vinyl. I'm there this Saturday from 2-6. Come for a visit!

The 2nd round of culture cuts are coming in Berlin! Over 300 artists, myself included, are slated to lose their studios. In my neighbourhood many artists have already been forced out. Yoga studios and trendy health food manufacturers have moved in. Sign the petition against the gutting of culture.

I am in a group show at the Museum Kesselhaus Herzberge--a late 19th century steam powerplant used to heat the Königin Elisabeth Herzberge Hospital. We will be exhibiting among these industrial machines: www.museumkesselhaus.de/kesseltechni... and the opening is on September 13th at 6pm!

When I simply say I don't use Amazon, people actually hear "you are a bad person for ordering on Amazon." I get treated to narrowed eyes, "only someone who doesn't have kids has that privilege," or "consumer activism won't change the world." Why do you use Amazon? What would happen if you didn't?

So the acoustics of a people-filled thoroughfare at the Akademie der Künste wasn't perfect, but it was still thrilling to hear Arnold Dreyblatt on electro and Werner Durand on self-made wind instruments last night.

Beim Kauf einer Daten-Software für die Polizei droht den Steuerzahlern in Baden-Württemberg ein Millionenverlust. Es handelt sich um ein Produkt des umstrittenen Anbieters Palantir.

Ever since the show I curated in my apartment (from which I was then evicted) in 2019, I have been interested in the function of art in private settings, and the home itself as art object. Now I am teaching a course on the topic at the @berlinartinstitute.bsky.social and it starts in November:

I interviewed Susan Schuppli about the "legal imagination" in her work for @berlinartlink.bsky.social. Apart from the limits and possibilites of law as a practice of justice, we talked about her use of materials as an artist. A curiosity-driven interaction with matter is also a type of witnessing.

On Friday I finished a one-week intensive Master Class about drawing beyond the self @berlinartinstitute.bsky.social : drawing not as self-expression, but self-(un)definition, self-extension and dissolution. I don't exagerrate when I say that I also learn a lot from the participants.
#ByeBAI to all participants and 🙏🏼 for a wonderful week and your commitment & contributions to the Master Class OUT OF LINE: Drawing with and beyond the Self by #DagmaraGenda at #BAI.

Every year I have the pleasure of reviewing Maerzmusik, a festival for new music, for @berlinartlink.bsky.social .
Writing on Maerzmusik, which took place March 21st – 30th, Dagmara Genda discusses (anti-)social malaise caused by digital and medial alienation, references to internet trolls, and role reversals between performer + audience in her review.

Drawing is not self-expression but can push beyond the self and redefine one's boundaries as an artist and also as a person. Lines and threads can always be redrawn! This is what my one-week intensive is about at @berlinartinstitute.bsky.social this June, who just joined blue sky. Welcome!

Art as such doesn't ensure a fair and open discursive space. It must be reread and redefined with each generation, whose conditions of thinking and feeling are embedded in new material and social contexts. This was the concern behind this cut book work: 'Ulysses' (2024).
