August is Booker longlist time for me, and thanks to my friends at @fiveleavesbooks.bsky.social, I have now started my last book, having finished Misinterpretation yesterday. So far, my favourites are Seascraper and Endling, for very different reasons, and it is an unusually strong list.

This lot followed me into the corner of the field. Fortunately I didn't have to retreat.

A few pictures from Wednesday's #SlowWays pleasant but unspectacular walk from Retford to Sutton on Trent. I have just one Nottinghamshire SlowWays route left to do, and hope to do Rampton to Gainsborough tomorrow to finish the set (see link below for a map).

#FingerPostFriday on the Wales Coast Path (and #SlowWays PreHol two) between Mostyn and Greenfield & Duke of Lancaster in the distance

A few pictures from yesterday's #SlowWays walk testing a new route from Sutton on Trent to Rampton, mostly along the west bank of the Trent. A lovely 5* walk but not ideal for public transport - I had to walk another 2.5 miles to get a bus from South Leverton afterwards.

Did a 3 #SlowWays 14 mile triangle from Staveley yesterday, 🐌ing StaBol2 & BolClo2 then testing a new StaClo3. Still plenty of snow and hard ice in NE Derbyshire, and wet sticky clay where it had melted.

I was out in the fog yesterday testing a more direct #SlowWays route from Carlton to Southwell yesterday. Lots of ghostly trees, damp fields, a bit of sticky mud but no longer views.

This is the new route:

A few pictures from yesterday morning's #SlowWays walk from Wirksworth to Belper. I created a new route because although the existing one is verified, it contains detours with unnecessary ascents and descents, so the new one is easier.

A few pictures from yesterday's sunny #SlowWays walk from Bawtry to Retford via Bircotes. Both new routes, and I am now down to 6 unwalked Notts or part-Notts SlowWays routes.

My last #SlowWays walk on Saturday was from Burton to Swadlincote via Ashby-de-la-Zouch, and completes this little waylist of verified routes from Burton to Leicester (extended a little at both ends). All of these are routes I have walked over the last two years.

I haven't posted much about the #SlowWays walking network here yet, but thought I'd share this map showing what has been linked and verified so far (to verify a link 3 volunteers need to walk and review it). My most recent contribution was to help connect Salford and Bolton last Friday.
