I live near the lake, so most of my walks are on the beach. I guess I truly do enjoy “long walks on the beach.”

I like to collect sea glass (lake glass?) on my walks. If I slow down enough to really look, I can usually get a good handful on every walk.

Writer, you can have the sky high word counts or you can earn the stories that only a full, curious life away from your desk can create.

You can be a speed drafter or you can step away and actually engage with things that inspire you.

Not only CAN you be both a writer and a person, but you must.

There’s no version of a fast walk with a good sea glass haul.

I have to ask myself the same question every time:

what matters more? The steps or the souvenirs?

Lately, I’ve been feeling like my walks are a little too slow. I’m not getting as many steps in per hour, but I am finding more sea/lake glass.

today, after my fourth or fifth find of the day, I thought, “I should really pick up the pace if I’m going to get enough steps before dinner.”
