Minnesota Voice Actor. RIO was awesome as a kid. Will never not refer to this state as "tinysoda" because of that movie.

Considerations when checking VO rates:

- Are the resources you're looking at up-to-date/reflective of current economic behavior?
- What's the focus? Games, ADR, long-form narration, prelay animation & commercial ALL use different pay-schema. How payout works depends on union status + project type.

In total/across both development bursts, I've directed ~75hr of sessions for "Undergrowth."

This go 'round, I implemented >5000 lines of code for 37 in-game days…which is just stuff added in 2.0.

Both stats are tiny relative to the writing, audio-work, & art done by my teammates. It's a BIG game!!
🍄 UNDERGROWTH: WINTER JAM EDITION! 🦠

Through the power of ✨union bureaucracy✨, I'm thrilled to announce a giant update for "Undergrowth," which adds:

- An entire in-game month of content
- 1360 MORE voiced lines of dialogue
- Lots of narrative reactivity

…and it's free!

I bought a new microphone, the Rode NT1, so I don't have to keep swapping my old microphone from my desk to my recording space. It finally arrived and is awesome!!!

Is your home studio/recording environment:

- well-isolated?
- well-treated?

So well-isolated that exterior sounds don't bleed into the recording environment.

So well-treated that the loudest claps leave minimal (if at all) reverb in the DAW.

Yes? Great. 💪 No? Let's get it done in 2025. 😤

I finally got a laptop for voice acting. Now I no longer have to handwrite out scripts or print them off my computer! Though I will writing them out a little. It helped connect with the script xD

-The best part is that it runs great and has a quiet fan!

Learning about demos, especially from the people who make them was very helpful. Brittany Cox and her husband Ryan gave great information. To them, demos are a tool of trust in this industry for casting directors. They both LOVE making demos. They carefully craft original script that fit the space.

This last week has been nuts. My day job has kept me busier than ever, and then there's finding out that my IRL buddy got into an accident and ended up needing surgery, and on top of that, recording lines for projects I've been cast in.

Some people might look at a stressful day and think, "this is a sign of bad luck, I shouldn't risk it with my team right now".

But I see it and think, "this is EXACTLY the blow I need to make sure my hubris doesn't get my party wiped in #ClassOfHeroes".

Voice actors don't want to be marketing with subpar demos. It makes sense.

Demo producers also don't want to produce subpar demos because it negatively affects their reputation.

When demo producers like Brittany Cox agree to work with you, they're also putting their names on it.

This last week has been crazy. I've been cast twice, both for different projects and I got my first contract job.

I recently learned about microphone cables.

Cheap ones and expensive ones make no difference in terms of sound or tone. Unless you're in a heavy Radio Frequency or Electro Magnetic rich room. The better shielding helps reject that stuff.

I love seeing people I help get what they need. Especially when it comes to pointing them in the right direction.

Last night I finished building this soundproof panel I had bought from @juneyoon.actor. It was a ton of fun, but also so much easier the second time around. His panels are high quality and absorb much more sound than others I've used.

I never knew acting could be so much fun. Which, if you think about, is basically just using your imagination to fill in what you don't see in the script, and that can be very fun. And I love it!

I was just thinking about someone I had seen a while ago.

It was about an actor's worth. This gets brought up from time to time, from what I hear. The idea that an actor should know how much they are worth.

I agree with that sentiment, to an extent.

I bought this Beekeepers throat spray finally after seeing it being praised by other actors I follow. It's doing pretty good. I recently got sick and it seems to be helping. It has a weird taste to it though. Or maybe it's just me never using a cold relief throat spray before?

There are a lot of things I want to talk about when it comes to acting and the auditioning side that I've learned, but I have been fearful of saying the "wrong" thing and upsetting someone who is more knowledgeable but haven't until now.
February 11, 2024 at 10:33 PM
The same goes with finding time with work to audition. I started auditioning for roles long before I had a job. I had a lot more time to audition and find roles then. After getting a job to help pay for some sound absorption, I've had far less time than I was accustomed to in the past.
