Direct Signal chats and small vetted groups are more secure because you have more control of the members. But it’s still only as secure as the members are trustworthy.

If you are using Signal to communicate with hundreds or thousands of strangers, it is not a secure channel. It’s probably compromised. That doesn’t mean it isn’t useful, but if you think you are playing Spy vs Spy or Revolutionary Vanguard, you are not.
