Fall of 2025, I began my doctoral journey in educational technology. Feel free to follow as I keep exploring.
I understand. Since tech is constantly changing rapidly, this can't be new? The context of tech doesn't change I suppose, though it's purpose might. In 2012 they considered it to be a new literacy, so then it was still deixis. But now it might be something different since it's not new... 🤔

That is so true because tech is continually evolving! How do we prepare the educators preparing those students? Plus #Leu stated "literacy means many different things to different people" making the task of teaching even harder because of differing perspectives. #edu800fall25

I think they do fall into being a deixis because the term is for "words whose meanings change rapidly as their context changes" (Leu & Forzani, 2012). New literacies are constantly evolving and changing as technologies improve. So the words new literacies would fall into that. #edu800fall25

Yes! I do appreciate that #Mills noted that as well. I wish they'd also shared a study discussing female adolescents and gamification as well. The one study discussed only offered a view to the reader of male adolescents and gamification. As a gamer, I'm curious of the gender differences.

This is a hilarious & clear explanation of new literacies. Knobel & Lankshear identify many new literacies-as you note- that require participation from the human learner, like with adding gamification! #edu800fall25

I found this interesting and concerning. How much effort and energy must be expended for creating individualized content? Is this new individualized literacy worth continuing? I know I always feel a bit odd when I see ads for something I just googled or mentioned. #edu800fall25

Knobel and Lankshear make good points about the things we know and use now will be "artifacts" in the future. It's a bit depressing to think what we study today may be obsolete tomorrow! #edu800fall25
