Social media can push us to the dark side, with negative content. A new study finds watching inspiring videos for just 3 minutes a day is on par with meditation for boosting mood and reducing stress.
Got 3 minutes? This habit may help boost hope and reduce stress

With how fast AI is developing, the idea of critical literacy frameworks is an important area for focused research. Leander & Burriss (2020) note that AI is doing work formerly deemed to be human-work. Building these frameworks could help redefine the roles. #edu800fall25 #Leander

I think questions posed by Leander & Burriss (2020) around qualities, meaning and further how do we vs the machines interpret them. Does AI agree that it’s stealing an artist is work? How do we teach it to understand when it is? #edu800fall25 #Leander

AI and art are a huge topic of conversation. While I lean towards not having AI “art”, we have to consider the fact that multimodality is changing in digitizable literacy edu because of this and how can we address it? #edu800fall25 #Leander

The idea that new literacies are part of forming new peer interactions through social media rather than in person is so odd, but true! We're behind screens more & we see more interactions there & new literacies are still helping to create those new environments. #edu800fall25 #Mills

Mills (2010) noted new literacies can include video games, showing that gamification & DGBL are both types of new literacies. Though they need to reviewed & built in ways to support & engage all learners to be true sources of knowledge transfer. #edu800fall25 #Mills #gamificiation

An issue with new literacies is around cultural diversity & recognizing that while English is widely spoken, there are many nuances for cultures making this an area of research to grow. Mills, 2010. #edu800fall25 #Mills

feedback for improvement are ways new literacy benefits learners. I'm really interested in learning more about the types of gamification out there & what could be done to implement it for all learners. (2/2) #edu800fall25 #Knobel #gamificiation

When reading Knobel & Lankshear (2014) I really connected with the idea of encouraging learners to write stories for an audience of their choosing- that's real; or using gamification to give immediate & consistent (1/2) #edu800fall25 #Knobel #gamificiation

Knobel & Lankshear (2014) explored how new literacy can improve & even help develop skills in learners listing the benefits & how schools differ. Noticed schools do the opposite of what works with new literacy. Feels counterintuitive like schools should be working to adjust. #edu800fall25 #Knobel

Knobel & Lankshear (2014) say new literacies is the shift from analog materials to technological mediums. I didn't realize how much this encompasses- blogs, video games, making apps, posts like this! Should they still be new literacies since they’re part of everyday life now? #edu800fall25 #Knobel

I really liked the idea from Leu & Forzani that "literacy is not just new today; it becomes new every day". Technology is constantly changing & growing- we live in an online era & every day new developments come from technology so there’s always something new to learn & embrace. #edu800fall25 #Leu

Leu & Forzani (2012) say to understand new literacies look at them from multiple viewpoints. With so many different types of literacies & others being developed as I type, it’s an opportunity to exp& & explore them with an open mind & consider different points one can have. #edu800fall25 #Leu

Teachers now include digital natives from the Millennial & Gen Z generations. I wonder if things have changed regarding multimodal learning because they’re so connected to the internet, bringing different views & knowledge. Possible area of future study. Leu & Forzani, 2012 #edu800fall25 #Leu

Exclusive: Federal workers have filed an emergency motion requesting a restraining order to disconnect the DOGE server that's being used to conduct Trump's "deferred resignation program." The workers had previously accused DOGE of illegally bypassing a mandated privacy audit.
