But that's just speculation. And my two cents. I think until regulations happen that companies need to have their balls held to the fire because letting them go off the hook once will give them ideas to be a little more bold than just "it's just the concept art, guys. Calm down!"

Given that one can actually have GenAI software on their computer, independent of those giant polluting data centers, I can easily see a world where people make and sell "Training packs" and also make their own art style and train the AI to draw like themselves first to make GenAI content.

My thinking is that when regulation happens, maybe a lot of the tensions will be defused, depending on how it happens - IE forced legal disclosures about the content of a website being AI made, and all AI training data having to be produced ethically - dare I say "indie" in a way.

So yeah, maybe things started out with a little more "dip the toes in the water" in mind, but that was four years ago, and since then you've had moments like AI bros saying artists deserve to be unemployed basically. Rinse and repeat for years, and suddenly it doesn't matter how you use it, AI is AI

I think really what has people in a twist over this game is because these AI bros have been so dishonest for so long, everyone has just now has this Pavlovian effect where if AI has touched it ever, then it's all tainted. I mean, they KNOW what they're doing is wrong, otherwise they wouldn't lie.

And similar to how the camera spawned in art forms like photography, and later on videography, and eventually gave us things like movies, who knows what AI will bring? That being said, the data sovereignty thing will have to happen first.

And later on, a lot of laws came into play. You can't take a picture of the Mona Lisa and say you painted the Mona Lisa - that is fraudulence. I think the same will happen with AI within the next 10-20 years or so (hopefully not that long from now).

When the camera was invented, artists raised their eyebrows for a lot of the same reasons. "That's not art if you're taking a picture of a landscape with a button press instead of painting it!" - "But it's work! It's not that simple! There's a lot of settup involved!"
December 22, 2025 at 12:29 AM
But I think all-in-all that a lot of the artists are missing the plot with their anti-AI stance, because really what they need to be arguing in favor of is data sovereignty. That is, being able to stop others from scraping your data online without your consent - this calls for significant reform.

Another common one I've seen is when people compare AI slop to someone's drawing that is clearly on the more primitive side and they say "This hand made drawing is better than the slop" - this to me is incredibly back handed to whoever made such a primitive drawing (unless it's just a thumbnail)

I do kind of feel like a lot of the criticism surrounding AI has significant flaws and has been a very persistent source of friendly fire. IE when some artists argued in a legal case against OpenAI that it's thievery because the model makes what is effectively a collage - are collage artists thiefs?
December 22, 2025 at 12:25 AM
I got some opinions that might get me staked, so I just wanna throw out first that I don't like AI either, as is evident by my profile, and some blocklists that AI bros have placed me on 😂
