The moors at their moody best

It's not often I like living in an old farmhouse, but with outside temps about to reach 30C, inside temps like this are very pleasant

A very soggy morning

Lovely cumolonimbus brewing over Dartmoor

Amazing what a bit of warming can do. took longer than we expected but sprang to life 20min ago

Considering how bad the weather was yesterday (44mm of rain and 5C), I'm amazed we only have one lamb in intensive care.

Hypothermic casualty, fingers crossed an hour of warming will bring it back, and it can go back to mum.

These newfangled ways of fixing insulation and plasterboard into place sure feel like cheating.

Squeezy foam, wait 5 min and press board into place, and then you're done!

Fingers crossed, it stands the test of time

It's very beautiful but a tad windy up on the moors today.

They weren't supposed to start this week. Thankfully, all looks well with this little one.

Not as cool as Danger mouse but this popped into my mind the other day

I thought it would make some charcoal today so took my phone out to film it. Then lost my phone and after some searching I found it again!

Anyone trying to contact me best use email or Bluesky as I dont think the SIM card will have survived being cooked at 500C haha

This is all I can find

Oh the joys of old lime and rubble walls. The drill bit vanished around a foot into the wall in the blink of an eye leaving me with this delight!

Hopefully injection resin will leave me with a secure fixing

No it's remaining ventilated. The rafters are 100mm deep so with 50mm PIR between them I keep 50mm of ventilation below the felt. The PIR projecting above ceiling hight is just to stop the mineral wool from blocking the ventilation. Hope that makes sense

This is the first bedroom cieling. 50mm between rafters, 75mm below and 300mm mineral wool on the flat. Walls thankfully have some EWI but adding 25mm PIR backed plasterboard to alleviate problems with thermal bridging as above external EWI at top of inside of wall

On social media in the woodwork world you often see an image of old timber and new showing how new wood is grown so fast in comparison with old timber

Well this a 100+ year old floor board and some 3x2 Scott's pine I milled a few months ago.

Working up the feild and got to watch pheasants trying to intimidate some sheep 😀
March 5, 2025 at 2:56 PM
I brought my home cut 3x2 in this morning to finish drying before use. Think it's looking pretty straight thankfully but final drying may show morr problems

At least it's now stopped but 65mm for 24 hours
February 24, 2025 at 8:53 AM
Well today has been a bit of a washout. It started at 0900 and its still going

If you take the plastic tanks out you can make little hats for the crates. I've been drying logs like this for probably 15 years and it works a treat. Make sure to cut them the right way then you can get an overlap on all 4 sides

I cant see the problem. I use a pickup for work and all I care about is how it does its job.

Its got some of the utilitarian look of the Toyota IMV 0
