For the first time while collating Nationals info on @mtg.wiki I have managed to fully complete a 1995 box: way to go Sweden!

What’s the coolest Premodern era art sadly attached to a card which isn’t really good enough to play? Maybe it’s this one: it’s a pretty strong contender at the very least. Makes a pretty awesome event poster if nothing else, so that’s cool.

Posting this here so I can reference it on the wiki! :)

For context: MaRo has mentioned that there was a 1994 Belgian Nats in a few articles, but I couldn’t find anything about it. So I emailed Carl Devos who did reports on the Dojo (and is still doing OS93/94 reports on zongo.be/magic) and boom:

Many Magic Players ask the question… what team at Worlds 2018 was the most Metal?

And the winner is…

BULGARIA!

It’s impossible to pick a favourite piece that he did for the game, but right now I am quite enjoying this one in particular:

Getting a bit ahead of myself in poster stakes, but when inspiration hits… love for some more cats in Australia, Japan, Philippines etc to join us. Got a pretty cool group of people regularly jamming some premodern together!

Because I’m a huge fan of old white bordered Magic cards, obviously I chose to recreate the 2001 Deckmasters: Finkel vs Garfield duel decks with original Ice Age and Alliances printings. Clearly Garfield, channelling his inner Olle Råde, is the pick of the two. (I think Finkel crushed him though.)

To be fair… he does like the word.

I guess since I’m going hard on Bluesky posting… Back when LTR dropped I designed a bunch of thematic 60 card casual decks. Maybe by the time the newly announced Hobbit set drops I’ll have finished building them! This is “Cirith Ungol”: finally pulled the trigger on Mithril Coat. (Store credit!)

This plonker doesn’t speak for Aotearoa NZ. Well, actually he does. Which is a huge fucking problem. But in reality he doesn’t. From the river to the sea, no more of this hypocrisy. Fuck Zionism, Fuck Militarism, Fuck Americanism, Fuck Nationalism, Fuck Religion. 🇵🇸✊☮️⭐️

Granted.

I’ve been holding out for this long rumoured deck and so it’s exciting to get a confirmation! I guess the question now is if they’ve gone for the conventional list or made any changes? I’m not sure which I’d prefer, so whatever they’ve gone for will be ok with me.

After events of last month it was clear what card art needed to be used for this sucker! apacpremodern.weebly.com

So the worst thing about the Tempest dual lands — and yes, this is something I’ve actually spent time contemplating — is not that they are terrible, but that there’s actually two different types. Which are both terrible. I’d genuinely be interested in an Enemy cycle of “doesn’t untap” ones though.

As a “creator” naturally I am obsessed with analytics. Even though I’ve not made a post for weeks. The big question now is just what sort of deranged person had dived so deep into a chatgpt hole that it is actually providing them a link to my site? A timely reminder to check in on your mates, eh.

My deck photo game is getting sloppier. Ironically the time I decided not to play Sligh in the APAC webcam guess what knocks me out in the quarters? But that’s cool: can’t be too sad about being beaten by the best deck in the format.

I love old Magic mags.

Counterpoint: Double Feature is probably the best alt-frame set they’ve done. There’s actually enough cards that you can make full decks with it, and importantly with matching basics. That’s something that isn’t possible with either Future Sight or the LTR Scroll frame treatments.

Holy shit. The rumours were true? Theme decks are returning? Oh my oh my oh my.

I put the @magiconline.bsky.social #Pauper #Delver deck together in paper. It’s quite pretty. And will be even more so when I replace the MM2 counterspells, Game Day Considers and Invasion Disrupts with versions with black expansion symbols.

But only this particular version of it, mind. ;)

Throwback Thursday — the absolutely iconic moment in Magic: the Gathering history when David Mills was informed that catering for Pro Tour Los Angeles 1997 was being provided by a German company.

In addition to saying no you get an extra three turns locked under Stasis! What’s not to like?
