For some reason my partner was a bit sceptical when I asked her to follow me down a dark corridor in Pollokshaws Burgh Hall so I could show her a gigantic and beautiful organ

A little look at how my dynamic consistency on this foot exercise has improved over the last 18 months - maintaining a consistent level of volume is of course just as important as timing for a good-feeling performance #musicscience

The covers of Alva Noto's 5 'Xerrox' albums side by side.

I love Queens Park. I love the fact that in the middle of Glasgow I can come here and (aside from
the thunderous sounds of the city) feel like I’m in the countryside for a few minutes

This is the ne plus ultra of ‘grumpy at the modern world’ music titles and I love it

A year’s worth of progress at this 4-limbed paradiddle-esque pattern- first shot is the timing of my first attempt, second is my most recent one.

Compared to yesterday’s post you’ll notice I lost barely any progress compared to the faster exercise during my time away from practise 1/2

John McGuire- “Pulse Music” - wonderful music but also accompanied by writing and images. This, almost more than the medium for the music, is what I find compelling about physical releases- the opportunity to provide the rich context that streaming services strip away

A lot to love about this of course but one of my favourite things about it is the intense sense of physicality the intimacy of the recording imparts to Stan Getz’ saxophone

In June my daughter was born and I went a month without practicing- as you can see here my chops fell off considerably but even with the more restricted amount of time I currently have for practicing it’s been faster to recover them than it was to develop them in the first place

Also strong recommendation for this - great on the man and his life but also great on explaining why the music was so revolutionary

Friend of mine sent me this photo of this from a night put on by @wyrdscience.bsky.social in a former life. 20 years! One of the more fun shows I have played iirc

Long enough ago that the dubstep room was called the GRIME DUNGEON 💀
