My interpretation of Higurashi Sotsu's ending explained for a discussion on my discord. Spoilers, obviously

Rika wins their game through a miracle. Not the fact that she was barely alive when Satoko came to make sure in the Tataridamashi timeline, but the fact that she rejected that reality even as it invaded her mind. She had no intention to deceive, she was only planning a gift for Satoko's birthday. She did not see through the deception as Satoko intended to be the win condition, and instead proved the trust she holds for her and that her care for her was never a lie. After this point Satoko has lost, and we are merely witnessing the fallout and the airing of the emotions they could never share The witches battle on a stage of fragments, as the versions embroiled in this conflict are not their human piece selves and they are not held in place by the rules of a game anymore they are not bound to a single timeline. The Onigari-no-Ryuuou can be understood not as a physical object, but as a manifestation of will - the intent to erase one another from the world. They are equally unable to grasp it because neither truly has that intent. Their ideal worlds are incompatible, but they have each other in it. Satoko's will slips at the very end of their battle when she realizes how similar Rika's feelings are to her own, and the genuine love they share, which allows Rika to get the upper hand one last time as she takes the complete sword from her. But in the end, she doesn't want to do it either. So she casts the blade aside, into the river where Watanagashi is performed, where sins are cleansed. Once again the sins of man are shouldered by the gods, and the Onigari-no-Ryuuou falls into the river, into the sea of fragments, into Hanyuu's hands. WIth this thorough victory she strikes down Eua, revealed to be exactly the same type of existence as Hanyuu, who already had a cracked horn. She graciously accepts defeat as this outcome is just as entertaining. In the final fragment we see Satoko and Rika bruised and exhausted after a long fight. The age they are and the clothes they're wearing... this is the Matsuribayashi fragment. This is the club reunion. I want to return to the scene in Tatariakashi where we see Satoko the human and Satoko the witch fight for control the narrative. The human cries she never intended to go so far, that something went wrong along the way. The witch tells her she is merely the leavings of an old fragment and removes her from this story. There are two parallel narratives. One of the game of witches, one of the human in turmoil over the person closest to her. Fragments have a fictional nature to them, at the end of the day they are stories. Games with rules, thoughts in one's mind. Higurashi Gou follows Satoko's darkest thoughts in that moment, her grudges, the things she would make right, what she would do to Rika at the height of her feeling of betrayal. But she never wanted to actually do any of those things. The witches make it back to this fragment where it all started, where the human Satoko and Rika were simply having a fight over their opposing viewpoints and the direction of their lives. The conclusions of the humans and witches intertwine when they, for the first time, listen to their friends. A miracle occurs when everyone reaches out their hand, and for the first time they think to listen to the other people who care for them. Through a simple conversation, they reach the conclusion that they can live separate lives, they can part, and that's okay. In life some things simply have to end. But it doesn't mean it's the end forever. Time will march on, and someday they may face each other once again. Surrounded by cherry blossoms carried by the wind, a symbol of that which is beautiful because it has an end, the witch returns the human to herself and leaves the fragment, knowing she too will catch up with her Rika someday.

If you haven't read the visual novel for Higurashi I highly recommend that you do so even if you've seen the anime. It isn't remotely the same experience and I guarantee you'll find numerous more reasons to love it. I won't shame you for watching a playthrough instead if you must
