If Trump can claim a "national emergency" to disappear legal residents without due process, what’s to stop him from doing the same to U.S. citizens who oppose him?

Current elected leadership is not showing they are up to a full scale assault on democracy. No elected official should be talking about their imaginary higher power right now. Focus on obstructing enough to marshal a cogent response. Where is the strategic response?
