Paving work can sometimes get in the way, but it’s really important to keep our roads smooth and safe.

The Department of Public Works takes workers’ safety seriously.

Its Safety Division is constantly reviewing accident reports, performing onsite inspections, and devising strategies to lessen the potential for future accidents. It also conducts more than 150 safety sessions with employees annually.

The Department of Public Works’ in-house paving crew and one of its contractors dodged the elements to pave more than 5 miles and 12 roads last month.

Crews worked on top of new asphalt heated to 300℉ throughout the hottest June in the county since 1943.

The inbound Armstrong Tunnel will reopen and the more than two-year, $13.1 million Armstrong Tunnel rehabilitation project will end tomorrow morning. The outbound tunnel sidewalk will remain closed through September. Learn more: bit.ly/43jXDis
