I delivered a guest lecture at a law school recently. One of the students came up to me after the class to tell me he enjoyed my lecture. He said he liked it because it was about actually practicing law unlike his other classes.

Lawyers (and judges) keep citing to fake cases. There are AI tools for legal research, but lawyers are not using them.

The legal field is not ready for AI. If we can get everyone to watch out for hallucinations, how will we get everyone ready for deepfakes, AI-agents, and more?
It’s “frighteningly likely” many US courts will overlook AI errors, expert says
Judges pushed to bone up on AI or risk destroying their court’s authority.

I am glad to see so many law school deans sign this letter and stand up for the rule of law.
Dean Chemerinsky and other #lawschool deans "speak as legal educators, responsible for training the next generation of lawyers, in condemning any government efforts to punish lawyers or their firms based on the identity of their clients or for their zealous lawful and ethical advocacy."

This is incredibly dangerous. Section 230 is essential for the Internet. It protects small companies. Repealing it gives more power to Trump, Meta, X, and other larger Internet platforms. It could shutter smaller services like Mastodon, Bluesky, etc.
NEW: As early as next week, Senators plan to introduce the first bipartisan bill to repeal Section 230, the landmark internet law

I spoke with congressional aides to get the details of the ambitious effort, which internet experts described as akin to extortion

Just insane. People depend on this money. Missing a check could mean missing payments for housing, or not having money for food or medicine. This billionaire is so out of touch.
BREAKING: Trump's billionaire Commerce Secretary says that seniors won't care if they don't get their Social Security checks — and that anyone who does complain is a fraudster.

The escalation of attacks on the judiciary is scary. The Founders created 3 branches of govt for a reason. Trump & Musk are calling for the impeachment of any judge who rules against them.

The Judiciary has limited enforcement tools. The system works because we trust it. We must support judges.

Republicans attacked social media companies saying they were violating the First Amendment when they removed false COVID posts. They pretended to be protecting the 1st Amendment.

It was never about the Constitution. It has always been about suppressing what they don't like and promoting their lies
Trump at the DOJ: "I believe that CNN and MSNDC, who literally write 97.6% bad about me, are political arms of the Democrat Party. And in my opinion, they are really corrupt and they are illegal. What they do is illegal."

If you have any suggestions for @leahlitman.bsky.social, send them over!

She is one of the fantastic hosts of @strictscrutiny.bsky.social and the author of Lawless, a great new book on the Supreme Court: www.amazon.com/Lawless-Supr...
CROWDSOURCE: I'm looking for good readings, from a law-of-democracy or comparative perspective, about how courts function in authoritarian, fascist, autocratic, and/or oligarchic systems.

Any help most welcome!!!

On Tuesday, Feb 11, I will present a free CLE for legal professionals on the impact of AI-generated evidence in litigation. AI-generated or manipulated evidence will be the next big challenge for lawyers. We'll discuss the challenge, the law, and what we can do.

After the Cybertruck explosion in front of the Trump Hotel in Vegas, I was interviewed about the data modern vehicles are tracking. New cars are constantly recording our driving and sending that data to the manufacturer.
