Next question is what it would be like with expulsion, remigration, statelessness, second class citizenship, or suppression for anyone not considered a Heritage American, including liberals and progressives of every background. That’s the aspiration.

Wow. I had never heard of this case. There are some things it helps me understand about my family history. Thanks so much for sharing, truly.

Notable that he wrote this before any information about the gunmen was released, and omitted that the unarmed Ahmed al Ahmed put his his life on the line and almost certainly saved many.

If you want those nightmares gone, find the stories about Uma Thurman telling women to hide their feet around him. I like several of his movies very, very much, but it seems like he's really stressed lately and going through his later-in-life stage, where people find out about all the problems.

the goal is elimination
December 6, 2025 at 12:29 AM
True, you did not use that word. Noping out of further murders is not the standard for avoiding either war crimes violations or crimes against humanity, both of which are outside US law and jurisdiction. 27 people died on Admiral Holsey's watch. CYA doesn't actually count as a defense here.

That's not what happened, though. He resigned after many strikes, and he still backs them. Raising a concern is not the same thing as refusing to obey an illegal order. He does need to be brought in under oath, as do the rest, but he needs to answer some hard questions. Spare us the hero talk.
December 4, 2025 at 5:44 AM
Asking questions is far less than what the UCMJ, international law on crimes against humanity and war crimes, and US laws on murder demand. Holsey still backs the strikes, which most experts say are illegal. Trump, Hegseth, et al are trying to push across every line. Leaders are obligated to disobey

Also, thanks for the share.

Nah, that's pulling the most serious punch. If it happened as said, they are all criminals - certainly any officer who relayed or obeyed the unlawful command. This idea of scapegoating presumes an someone is unjustly blamed. They all had a duty to disobey the unlawful order.

So he pardons drug kingpins and deports law-abiding scholars, both from Honduras.

Oh and thanks for sharing. I’m once again embarrassed for my undergraduate university. They really haven’t changed.

So many problems. One is opening up curiosity about diversity in in-group opinions has not going to do with the topic of partisanship as framed. The other as you point out is there isn’t good reason to be curious and therefore open to fascist beliefs. As a GMU grad. I’m totally unsurprised. :(

Good article, though I think Nichols missed that the DOJ the implicit claim of plenary power in DOJ's defense of this. The argument is that nothing the President does is illegal, so no orders he gives can be illegal, with the implication that telling military to follow the law is therefore treason.

Ew. Just another in a long line of reactionaries who claim they were once liberal or progressive. The mention of Haidt is instructive. Thanks for the link.

Ones who already have a long running conversation going. The exchange seems pretty clear that Trump did the thing alleged.

“Kyren Lacey Field at LSU Tiger Stadium,” and claw back as much as possible from Kelly and give it to Lacey’s family and/or their charities of choice.

There is precious little evidence that people who actually were motivated by the original meaning of the term were illiberal in the pejorative, twisted slur renditiond people like Weiss, McWhorter, and Chait promoted. There is a direct line from their work to Charlie Kirk store thinking.
September 30, 2025 at 11:53 PM
Apart from that, the content is pretty good. We shouldn’t buy into the rights co-optation of every single word that woke people (in the original sense of the term” have developed. The people calling at the woke right our whitewashing their contributions to the right wing hysteria they fomented.
September 30, 2025 at 11:50 PM
The idea of calling it the woke right continues the stupid and offensive appropriation of the original meaning of the term. Note that the people who came up with that are very much allied with a certain kind of right wing politics that poses as centrist, but is not.

Flip side is many other countries also seeing a rise in far right extremism. So advice that works for some American travelers can turn out to be very risky for others. Certain Americans stand out more in those countries than we do here. Interracial marriages, biracial kids in our experience.

The reporting I’ve seen suggested talk. Disney executives were in on the decision. I can’t imagine that they wouldn’t have been. Rolling Stone for one, but I’ve not dug into it. Seems pretty likely they gave in.
