I am actually on no 7. Always only had one at a time, still commuting most days with it. That's 6.5 years per bike through my cycling years (realistically more, as children's bikes didn't last that long and one was stolen before it's end of life). Bikes last long as they are endlessly repairable.

That's all I have ever owned (in 30 years). All were used when I got them, but I am still somewhat shocked, that I seem to need another car every 5 years.
I think I owned 5 bicycles over almost 40 years. Seems they're more reliable.

I can top this. This is in the north of Glasgow on a footpath (there is not street nearby)...
But there are remains of police tape, so I assume, it gets dealt with....

Sorry to hear that and I hope you are ok. This is actually one of my biggest fears when cycling here.
