The less popular he is, the less powerful he'll be, and the more individuals and institutions will feel empowered to stand up to him. He still can, and will, do a ton of damage, but "establish permanent authoritarianism" looks more and more remote, though not impossible.
Important datapoint in terms of how people understand Trump's second term. He's actually hit and will soon surpass the level of unpopularity he had in his first time. See this from G Elliott Morris's site. Many still have this idea he's more popular, has more robust support. www.gelliottmorris.com

Not a step back on liberal social values. Not one step.
When Trump is gone, the cultural backlash against the reactionary right will be extraordinary, and positioning yourself with social values that will be anathema isn't terribly bright. But the Dems have plenty of reactionary centrists who will do it nevertheless.
As someone who voted for slotkin, this pathetic and makes me furious

This is why free trade works!
Just heard from a constituent who owns a company that employs 90 people in California. The Trump tariffs he’s now required to pay are higher than his entire payroll. He’s therefore forced to immediately start furloughing workers.

More than 2M families can afford rent because of federal housing support. Trump wants to take that away. This heartless move will lead to more housing instability & homelessness. It’ll mean fewer poor people working & sending their kids to school.

He’s obsessed with making life worse for people.

Trillions of dollars lost in the market, nearly all of our allies have been alienated, and a potential recession ahead of us, all for barely enough tax revenue to pay for a single new public restroom in San Francisco.

That’s the good old-fashioned art of the deal, folks.

Never submit to MAGA.
Shockingly, the law firms that bent the knee & pledged a billion dollar legal lush fund are now finding out Trump owns them & he’s thinking of new terrible things they need to do.

When the bully demands your lunch money, you don’t give it to him. You say no. Otherwise he just comes back for more.

Imagine being placed on a psychiatric hold after being found walking around Los Angeles buck naked and then looking down on adult performers. Sex-negativity is truly wild.

Interesting ideas for a city like San Francisco with more dogs than kids.
There are two main reasons to be skeptical of “pro-natalism.”

1. The eugenicism
2. The misogyny

But there are ways to be pro-babies and pro-women.
“Pro-natalism” should be explicitly feminist
It may not shock you to learn that, growing up, I loved reading, writing, listening to lectures, and arguing in class.

Good stuff! We need a strong, muscular liberalism. Let's be about it.
Liberals can no longer remain fragmented, clinging to meaningless labels.

We must go on the offensive.
