#FAA mandated reduction in airline flights during the #shutdown maintains #ATC safety but also insulates private executive flyers from impact. Normally they get lower priority than scheduled flights at congested airports. Pain relief for billionaires at the expense of the general public.

Pattern I see all too often:
* I’m being taxed $X to address issue Y
* Y isn’t solved
* Government is ineffective! Abolish the tax!
Never mind that the true cost to solve Y is 2X 5X or 10X, and the situation would be worse if $X wasn’t being spent.

Someone created this makeshift bike lane protection late Tuesday or early Wednesday. SDOT removed it hours before a hit-and-run collision at the same location. A week ago, bike advocacy hero Merlin Rainwater was in a scary collision with a bus at a pinch point where the protected bike lane on Pine Street swerves toward the general traffic lanes before 4th Avenue.
