“In 2005 the New Labour manifesto promise was that no more than 10 per cent of us requiring surgery should be waiting more than 16 weeks. By 2010 that promise was fulfilled. Nineteen years on, Britain is far removed from that.”
I wonder what happened in 2010!

It is pointless shaking up the police unless the whole criminal justice system is overhauled including the courts, prisons and especially the CPS which has become dysfunctional and under the radar especially since it was centralised.

Good piece focussing in on the role of the media and good information in democracy…
…and highlighting that the authoritarian/fascist/far right are abusing it while the milquetoast liberal left and centre largely do nothing.

Most politicians, alongside oligarchs, know that ownership of the media brings the power to manipulate information and create propaganda, yet most politicians on the centre left seem incapable of confronting that power.

This tollbridge is on my main dog walk. The detail and complexity of the charging policy must have led to chaos at busy times. The guy who developed this system must have also developed our welfare benefits system.

At the heart of the Badenoch pamphlet’s remarks on autism and anxiety is a kind of fairytale conservatism, that there are no rising demands on the exchequer that aren’t, at their core, undeserving. (You also see this with the pivot to softcore climate denial)
