(...). Because the rise of the "dark identities" of the far right is inversely proportional to the disappearance of class solidarity, a process closely linked to the relentless competitive logic of neoliberalism, the "icy breath of commercial society," as Benjamin wrote."

This is brutal. We’re getting slaughtered out there. And 1000s of militant fascists on the streets in Madrid today too. I dont know how we stop this anymore.

Also exactly that: antifascism needs to stop being the side counting its dead. In Bs As, since the 90s…2 dead nazis, no antifas. Sounds cold to put it in those terms, but it’s not a coincidence that they’ve lost their appetite for street presence & thuggery here, making the city safer for everyone.

Agreed. Ran out space but while it is important to accept the risk of injury & death; & to remember those who died— we’ll defeat fascism & make revolution w/the living, not the dead.

Fortunately we can control this through our actions, but never forget that while antifascism for us is an unfortunate necessity, (...), eliminating people like us is central to their ideology & politics. You need to never forget that they can & will kill you if you give them that chance.”

Our work as antifas is to deprive them of platforms, & of power. There’s a quote about racism from an ex-Black Panther that’s just as true in this case about fascists. The fascist’s ideas are his problem. If they obtain the power or confidence to act on them, that’s when they become our problem.

It’s because we got fascists out of our scenes & off our streets with a lot of effort, & we aren’t going to allow the nationalism & racism that breeds them back in.
We won’t change their minds, & that’s not the point. The battle of ideas is the work of political education and anarchist agitation.

defending, & valuing our own lives. When you do something, know why you’re doing it, and do it right. You need to think tactically in terms of personal safety, as well as strategy. Even when we go after the kids with the French flag patches on their jackets, it’s not a game & it’s not for fun.

If Carlos had been so fortunate, he might still be with us today.
"No random fascist on the street is worth your life. This is not a negation of the importance of militant antifascism, but an affirmation of its necessity, while at the same time being conscious of the importance of protecting,

The man is a professor now, so maybe it’s not such a surprise that he was able to reach an arrogant young anarchist who had next to no notion of the concepts of danger or consequences in a way effective enough for me to still more or less recall decades later.

as well as Julien, Mathieu, and many others who I had the opportunity to learn from and helped keep me safe.
As I thought about Carlos’ death, I remembered again how Victor concluded his blend of scolding, history lesson, & motivational speech all wrapped into one that spring afternoon in Paris.

I was armed with a healthy dose of sincere conviction in the indispensable importance of what we were doing as an act of public safety and collective self-defense, the occasional blunt force weapon, and the words of Victor on that afternoon at the CNT,

I was incredibly fortunate to always leave these confrontations relatively unscathed, despite being neither particularly large, nor having any kind of relevant combat sport or martial arts training.

From the time of that talk with Victor in 1998 until the death of Carlos in 2007 I had numerous confrontations with Nazis and fascists, the vast majority of which in proud “Nazihunter” tradition my friends, comrades, and I explicitly sought out.

If you are going to attack, maintain the element of surprise as much as possible. Do not give prior warning, leave the macho posturing out of it, and when you do attack prioritize collective action over individual confrontation.
