Game design stuff has taken a bit of a backseat lately, because I've been obsessed with world-building this fucked up post-anomaly darkest-possible-timeline black comedy nightmare UK setting, which I'm currently running a BitD game in.

Ultimately, we settled on something evolutionary. Visually the imagery of the game moves from early medieval notation inspired by the Ars Notoria (even featuring some of the complex linework from the book, into a more refined magical-renaissance style, then finally into the expanse of the stars.

It went through a NUMBER of redesigns after that initial version, some of which was kept and made it into the final piece, but a lot of which was carved away.

It was the prototype for the game, the original idea for which was: "A supplemental magic system for games that uses a keyword + point + geometry system to design an individual glyph every time you want to cast a spell."

It was told from the perspective of the Magic system's original creator, a wizard named Arbuckle Borgetz-Grantham, and (bar what you see below) was otherwise entirely told in-character.

The earliest version of Glyph was intended as a supplement to replace the magic system of any other TTRPG (sort of). As such, it had significantly more rigorous rules.

The tone of the book was also a lot more comedy-forward, which fell by the wayside as we included stuff in the book to actually do.
